Hi! My name is Lucas Staples and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate. I graduated from the University of Denver in 2023 with a Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology. I am currently working towards licensure, so I will be collaborating with my supervisor to ensure that you receive the best care possible. I see individual clients of all ages, but I particularly enjoy working with children and teenagers.
In my free time I enjoy thrifting, adding to my various collections, and spending time with my partner and our cat. I am originally from Santa Clara, California, but I have spent most of my adult life in Oregon and Colorado. I decided to become a therapist because I want to make a difference in the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals and provide them with a safe, affirming space.
I primarily utilize client-centered therapy and child-led play therapy, but I also incorporate elements of cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy into my work. I believe that you are the expert of your own experience, and that my job is to guide you and help you gain deeper insights into yourself, not tell you what to do. However, I can also take a more structured, straightforward approach when needed, and I enjoy challenging my clients to be the best versions of themselves.
I use he/him/his pronouns and identify as a white, able-bodied, transgender man. I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, neurodivergence, and LGBTQ+ issues.
